Changes at My Community Office to Follow Public Health Recommendations

Published on March 16, 2020

I know that the past week has been a challenging time in Toronto and across Ontario. In the weeks ahead we will face new and evolving difficulties as we work through this epidemic. I also know that the strength of our community is in how we consistently take care of each other, no matter how hard things get. I know we can get through this together.

First of all, I want to let you know that my office and I are monitoring the situation closely and are in regular communication with local service providers, community groups and with constituents directly to gather as much local information as we can.

My office has launched a local website that consolidates as much information as possible. You can find it at:

I am grateful for the work of front-line healthcare workers and public health officials and for the care and generosity I have seen numerous times across our neighbourhoods.

Now it’s time for the government to ensure everyday Ontarians, and especially the most vulnerable folks, are protected.

Folks who miss a rent or mortgage payment through no fault of their own should not be punished. Gig economy workers deserve as much protection as folks who have full-time permanent jobs. Small and medium-sized businesses deserve to see protection in place to ensure they can support their employees without being insolvent. I stand with Andrea Horwath and our entire NDP caucus as we work to ensure that these questions are answered, and that your most pressing concerns are reflected in the province’s response measures.

Please know that my office and I are at your service in this difficult time. In following with the latest recommendations from the Ontario Public Service, we have temporarily closed our office. My staff will be working remotely and are available during regular business hours (Monday-Friday, 9 am - 5 pm) by phone at 416-972-7683 or by email at [email protected]

In the coming days we are contemplating the use of new technology to stay in touch with constituents as much as possible and welcome any feedback you might have.

With thanks,
