Shop Local

My office frequently hears from small businesses that are struggling to get by during the pandemic and worry about surviving the latest stay-at-home order. It’s been heartbreaking to see many local businesses close because of the lack of government support during these difficult times. In an effort to promote shopping local whenever possible, my team and I are delivering “I Shop Local” signs to you at no cost. We only ask that you put the sign in a highly visible location & send us a photo so we can share to show your support!

I understand that many businesses are having difficulty navigating the Ontario Small Business Grant (OSBSG). It shouldn’t have to be this way. I am calling on the government to release the funds they promised to small businesses immediately, and to fix the program to ensure all of our small businesses have the support they need to stay afloat.  Share your story and feedback using the feedback form below. I will bring your stories to the Ministry and fight for more support for small businesses.

Running a store through covid has been hard. When the Ontario Government announced the grant program I was happy. The only problem is that I had a fire that destroyed my store on March 20th of 2019 — so my April numbers were bad. I assumed that having been in business since 2008 I'd be able to talk to someone and work something out. So I applied. I heard nothing. Eventually the check in page said I was declined. So I laid out my case and appealed. I got a form letter back. No indication they had considered anything. Just you failed to show a loss. My account still says not eligible when I check online. The only one who will get back to me is my MPP's office. The stress of having no safety net left after the previous two lockdowns is hard to carry. I am really hoping to receive some support to get through this third one. Local Toronto Centre Business
